A Must Have Book For Everyone

This book was not only incredibly helpful, but I found it hard to put down, which for me is rare when it comes to nonfiction or business books. The chapters are quick to read and each has great tips and advice. The examples are funny and ones that are familiar to all of us. What to say to that coworker who wears too much cologne? How do I let my coworker know what they do bothers me? How can I provide praise that’s meaningful and effective? All things I, as a human resources professional, want all our employees to know.

Content ranges from the simple, but overlooked “how to say thank you” to providing feedback that is very personal- such as the cologne issue above. I also found the chapter on “expressing your emotions” to be especially helpful- as most people don’t know how to express themselves- and they either explode or implode. Buy this book now, you won’t regret it. Each of the 25 tips and techniques is a gem that will help you shine as a better person in all your relationships. If you care about those around you, buy them a copy too.

Reminded Me How To Speak

This book is an easy-to-read guide to more effective communication in your everyday interactions. You can use the techniques at work, but also at home with little “tweaking.” The author combines humor and down-to-earth advice that makes you want to keep reading and to put the techniques into action right away. You’ll find yourself saying, “How simple, I can’t believe I’ve never learned this before.” This is a great book on human interaction for all ages. If people learned these techniques while they were young, we’d have a lot better work and personal relationships in our world.

This Should Be Mandatory Reading

This is a great book for anyone who wants to improve their communication and relationships. Each chapter contains a different communication technique with tips on how to start using it the very day you read about it. I found myself setting goals to try a new technique each week and I’ve noticed a difference in my confidence in telling people the “hard truth” as well as the appreciation on the faces of those I’ve provided positive feedback. It’s like the beginning of the book states- we all are issued a communication toolbox when we’re little, and because human interaction skills aren’t taught in school, we struggle through life using a limited set of tools.

This book will add 25 totally necessary tools to your toolbox. If you want to learn to say no without offending others, how to write an effective email subject line, how to give praise and “developmental feedback” and everything inbetween, get this book.
